Hutchinson Hobbs is a true family business...

... with three generations involved in the creation of the farm shop and butchers. The name comes from their surname “Hutchinson” and Jenny’s maiden name “Hobbs”.

Barry & Jenny, and Barry’s parents, Alan & Anita are both local families with a strong farming background. They opened the farm shop on May Bank holiday weekend in 2015 and it has been an exciting adventure ever since.

Their children, Jessica and Katie have also been very involved in the business right from the start too. They have helped choose the kids shopping trolleys which you will find in the shop and the little tykes toys outside next to the picnic area.

Jessica, Barry and Jenny’s eldest daughter, was only five when she came up with the grand design of the 'little pink tractor' creating the business logo, a real family effort!

You will also see their youngest daughter, Katie giving a helping hand around the shop.

Barry and his Dad, Alan head up the butchery side of the business, which makes up about 60% of the business.

They also have a good wholesale meat trade and are supplying local pubs, village shops and a few independent caterers. Having previously helped to build a thriving farm shop and worked on the family farm, they have brought their expertise and knowledge into this new business.

Alan, who was a dairy and beef farmer most of his life has a good relationship with the local farmers, and personally selects the animals for the butchery, ensuring the welfare standards of all their animals are to the highest possible standard. Barry manages the butchery and wholesale trade making sure all the customers are given a fantastic service and the best quality meat.

Barry’s wife Jenny, who grew up on a family farm in Zimbabwe, manages & works in the farm shop. Anita, Barry’s mum also works in the shop and does all the HR. They have spent many hours carefully selecting which products to sell in the farm shop.

Everyone has tried to give the shop a bit of personality by adding a few of their own touches such as the shelfing units which were made by Barry out of old pallets. The oak woodwork around the fridges, originally comes from Castle Howard and was made into planks by the local sawmill, the bunting was also made by Jenny and Barry.

The public and staff have been incredible in supporting the business and it is thanks to them that Hutchinson Hobbs has gone from strength to strength and continues to grow each year.
